A winter wedding at Dodford Manor.
I was Lucie and Jody’s Dodford Manor wedding photographer . This was my first visit to Dodford Manor, near Weedon in Northamptonshire. The ceremony took place at St Mary’s church in Dodford, just behind Dodford Manor.
Ceremony in the church.
I started my coverage with Lucie’s preparations a couple of hours before the ceremony, I always recommend having photographs from this stage of the day as they make a great start to your wedding album and allow me to tell the complete story of your wedding day. After Lucie’s preps I arrived at St Mary’s church at Dodford to capture some photographs of Jody, the groom, greeting guests and waiting for the arrival of the bride. Then I photographed Lucie arriving in the beautiful December light. The church was lit with candles in decorated jam jars which gave off a lovely warm glow. During the ceremony I try to make myself as unobtrusive as possible and these photographs are from the back of the church. I also have a camera with a very quiet shutter, a blessing during the quiet parts of the ceremony.
After the ceremony the sun was starting to set and I was blessed with some very beautiful light to work with as Lucie and Jody hugged and chatted with their guests before leaving for a drive together away from the guests. For myself and the wedding guests it was a short walk next door to Dodford Manor for the reception where we were soon joined by Lucie and Jodie.
Dodford Manor is made up of stone barns around a courtyard, the drinks reception took place in the first of these barns and then it was into the second larger barn for the wedding breakfast.
It’s always a challenge to photograph weddings in the darkest days of December, I love working in these very low light conditions as it’s the quality of the light rather than the quantity that makes for good photography. I work by available light rather than bringing along flashes or additional lighting, this gives a lovely look to the photographs.
