Wedding Photojournalist

I’m a wedding photojournalist and my style of photography is called wedding photojournalism. A wedding photojournalist captures the story of a wedding without any interference, they do not set up the photographs. The photographs are carefully thought out and composed to show what is going on, each photograph tells a story. Emotions also play a big part of wedding photojournalism, with the photographer capturing images that hold a real memory. The phrase wedding photojournalist has become trendy over the last ten years and is no often over used to describe various styles of photography, real wedding photojournalism will consist of mostly photographs of people or details that are part of the story and although it may also contain some relaxed portraits it will mostly consist of story telling photography. Couples stood in corn fields or camera aware images are not wedding photojournalism.

An example of my work as a wedding photojournalist.

In the image above I had waited for the moment when the bride’s father came into the room to see his daughter as a bride for the first time. He was overwhelmed with emotion. I needed to include the bride in the photograph as otherwise the story would not be apparent to the viewer, so I framed the bride in the mirror and by luck dad was framed by the painting behind which made the composition work. These moments often only last for seconds so as a wedding photojournalist I have to think quickly to capture the image.
