Blake Hall wedding photos

Emily and Asa’s wedding photographs at Blake Hall.

Outdoor wedding ceremonies seem to be gaining popularity despite the variable British weather. From 2000 to 2010 I only photographed one outdoor wedding ceremony and that was for an American couple getting married in Ireland.  Since 2010 I have seen the numbers increase and Emily and Asa’s was my second in a row this month. In England the legal parts of the ceremony have to take place in a permanent structure with three sides and a roof, although some couples get around this restriction by having a civil ceremony the day before so they are legally married leaving them free to have a wedding blessing or a humanist ceremony wherever they like. Emily and Asa chose Blake Hall for their wedding which is licensed for outdoor weddings in a small building with doors that open up to the garden allowing the guests to be seated outside and the couple to stand under the roof.

This was my first visit to Blake Hall in Essex, weddings take place in the garden or inside the barn which is also used for the wedding breakfast. The barns have been sympathetically restored and retain all their original character.

I arrived to photograph Emily’s preparations before catching up with Asa before the ceremony. The weather was not looking very promising at this stage of the day but the sun came out as Emily and her father walked the short distance to the ceremony.

These are a few of Emily and Asa’s wedding photographs from Blake Hall, Essex.
