Hello I’m Simon Atkins, a Northamptonshire wedding photographer based in Higham Ferrers. I photograph weddings in Northamptonshire as well as across all of the UK in a storytelling documentary style.

I have experience of over 1,000 weddings ranging from just the bride and groom at a micro wedding to 750 guests at a Nigerian wedding. My wedding clients have included TV presenters, household name comedians and actors from the stage and screen.

Northamptonshire wedding photographer

After working as a press photographer I was one of the first UK photographers to offer documentary wedding photography. My photographs tell the story of your day by capturing fleeting moments in a photojournalistic style. I don’t set up the photographs or pose you, instead I capture the scene as it unfolds in a natural candid style. I’m also happy to take some family group photographs and relaxed portraits which are taken quickly and without fuss allowing you to enjoy your day with your family and guests.

Coverage usually starts a couple of hours before the ceremony to capture the build up and preparations, I then photograph the entire day up to the first dance (extended coverage is also available).

Why hire me as your Northamptonshire wedding photographer ?

Choosing your wedding photographer is an important decision and you should find one who works in a style you like. Photographers are all different in their approach to weddings so you need to have a good look through their work to decide if their style is what you are looking for. I describe my style as pure documentary, other than a handful of groups and portraits I am very much in the background capturing what I see on the day without any posing or prompting. I was one of the first UK wedding photographers to adopt this style and it comes from my background as a newspaper photojournalist. I look for images that have real meaning and storytelling. I absolutely will NOT take over your day, make your groomsmen jump in the air or suggest you stand in the middle of a wheat field! My photographs are honest, full of emotion and capture real moments from your wedding. I dress like a wedding guest and blend in working with small silent cameras.

I bring my experience of over 1,000 weddings across 20 years covering everything from CofE ceremonies to Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Asian and Humanist weddings. The smallest wedding I've photographed was just the bride and groom with me standing in as a witness as well as being their photographer, my biggest wedding had 750 guests. I've also photographed a number of celebrity weddings and international weddings in Venice, Menorca, France and Ireland.

I don't employ associate photographers so it will be me photographing your wedding which means you can be confident of getting the style and quality of photography you see in my galleries.

What are the best wedding venues in Northamptonshire ?

We are blessed with so many great wedding venues in Northamptonshire with everything from barns to manor houses. There are venues that are ideal for a DIY wedding and venues with a wedding planner who will help organise everything for you.

If you are looking for somewhere to site a beautiful marquee I'd suggest Lyveden New Bield which is owned by the National Trust which offers a unique location with plenty of outdoors space. For a country house wedding have a look at Kelmarsh Hall which dates back to the 1730's and also has stunning gardens. Or have a look at Rushton Hall or Fawsley Hall.
